Description | Originally built in 1611, then rebuilt in 1810, Hirosaki Castle is one of Japan’s few remaining castles that hasn’t been rebuilt in the modern era. In fact, it is the only castle in the Tohoku area to possess that status. In this image, it is at a different location than usual, as renovations are underway to strengthen the base upon which the castle typically sits. It is scheduled to return to its regular location in 2021.Hirosaki Castle is one of the best places to enjoy the cherry blossoms in Japan. They can be seen everywhere within the perimeter and the contrast with the castle against the sacred Mt. Iwaki backdrop is just breathtaking. There are many varieties of cherry blossoms in the area and visitors can easily spend a whole day enjoying the atmosphere. |
